Descaling Delonghi

To enjoy your Delonghi coffee machine for longer, it is important to descale it regularly. This prevents limescale from destroying the heating element. Follow the steps below to clean your Delonghi Magnifica, Dinamica or another model.

Step 1: Descaling agent

Turn on your Delonghi coffee machine and empty the water reservoir. Then pour 100 milliliters of descaling agent into the reservoir and add one liter of water. Place the reservoir back. Place a container under the steam pipe of your coffee machine to collect the water. Make sure that at least 1.5 liters of water fits in this container. Then you can be sure that it will not overflow.

Step 2: Descaling program of your Delonghi coffee machine

To start the descaling program, press and hold the descaling button, which has an arrow and droplets next to it, for five seconds. Then open the steam lever completely so that the hot water can flow out. The descaling program takes approximately half an hour.

Step 3: Turn on the rinse program

Refill the water tank, this time only with water. Empty the container you used to collect the descaling agent and put it back. Turn on the rinse program and let the coffee machine do its work again. Water will flow through the Delonghi intermittently until the reservoir is empty. Close the steam knob after cleaning and your coffee machine is clean.

Protect the Delonghi coffee machine against limescale

Lime deposits shorten the lifespan of your Delonghi coffee maker, even if you descale it regularly. The lime sticks to the heating element, which causes your coffee machine to use more energy to heat the water. This causes the heating element to break sooner.

Protect your Delonghi machine against the effects of hard water with an anti-limescale system. The Amfa4000® only costs €139 and is suitable for the entire house. This way you protect not only your coffee maker, but also your shower head, kettle, washing machine and iron against limescale. Read more about the consequences of hard water.

Frequently asked questions about descaling your Delonghi

When should I descale my Delonghi Magnifica?

In general, you will need to descale a Delonghi every three months. A coffee machine like the Delonghi Magnifica indicates this itself, it couldn't be easier. Your coffee maker has a light that flashes when you need to descale the machine. This way you know immediately that it is time for a cleaning.

Can limescale get into my coffee?

If limescale builds up in your Delonghi coffee maker, it is possible that small limescale particles will end up in your coffee. You don't have to worry about this, because these particles are not harmful. However, they can change the taste of your coffee, because lime flakes contain various minerals.

What does limescale do to the crema layer on my coffee?

Crema is the golden brown layer on top of the coffee that is full of flavor. If there is a lot of limescale in your coffee maker, your cup of coffee will have a thin crema layer that quickly becomes watered down. This is because the limescale limits the pressure in the pipes.
