What are the consequences of hard water?

Tap water naturally contains lime. The amount of lime in the water varies per region, but in many regions the lime content is quite high, resulting in hard water. Thewater hardnessin the Netherlands causes moderate to heavy limescale deposits in most households.

Lime deposits due to hard water

Lime particles in the water deposit on materials that come into contact with the water and that cannot be dried properly. This limescale deposit becomes visible as a white haze on the shower door and around the tap.

Invisible limescale deposits

Calcium deposits are often not immediately visible, such as in water pipe systems, pump installations and on the inside of household appliances. These are places where limescale is not easy to remove and continues to accumulate. Only when problems arise with the flow rate or the operation of machines do people become aware of the consequences of this limescale.

Limescale costs money

Superficial limescale can still be removed with the right cleaning agent and vigorous scrubbing, but this costs time and money. Limescale deposits in household appliances are difficult to remove and will eventually require machines to be replaced due to reduced performance.

Lime deposits in, for example, the washing machine even cost extra money if your machine is still working. Calcification of heating elements leads to higher power consumption, because it takes longer for the heat to penetrate the insulating layer of limescale and to reach the correct temperature. A lime layer of 2 mm can increase energy consumption by up to 30%! In this way, limescale causes higher consumption and therefore a higher energy bill.

Prevent limescale with an anti-limescale system

To prevent limescale deposits without removing essential components from the water, a structural change in the minerals must take place. The unique Amfa4000® water treatment changes the crystal structure of the calcium and magnesium molecules in the water, so that lime particles hardly adhere to surfaces. The extensively tested process of the Amfa4000® is environmentally friendly and does not remove minerals from the water.

Prevent the effects of hard water
